“5 Marks” August Message Series
During this message series we will be looking at what sets a church apart. The word “holy” has the connotation of being apart. In the Hebrew Bible when something was designated as “holy” it was set apart for a special purpose. In the New Testament Peter writes this:
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” (I Peter 2:9-10)
The church, the gathering of God’s people, expressed in localized form, is an expression of holiness. That is, the church is set apart for God’s work in the world. So, what would be the characteristics, the trademarks of a “set apart” church? Over the next 5 Sundays we will look at various qualities of a church from I Thessalonians and of the individuals that compose any congregation.
Participant’s guides will be available. It will help you in individual study, small groups study, and as a place for taking notes during the series. Our hope is that this Participant’s guide will aid you in having a deeper appreciation for the church and lead us into September as we look at the direction and vision of our church.
