Spiritual Formation at Huron HIlls
Many people want to find their way into a life-affirming community. We want to be a church that is easy to connect with, because we are on a mission to draw those who are far from God into a close and living relationship with Jesus Christ. Community is vital for our mission. This diagram helps show a way you can think about connecting with Huron Hills.
In each season of our life in community, we want to move towards the spiritual life God is calling us to pursue. The Lord Jesus calls us to "seek first his kingdom" (Matthew 6:33) in all the comings and goings of our lives. The iPlan is one way for us to seek together for spiritual growth. As with any tool used for spiritual growth, we are placing our trust fully in God's hands to accomplish his work with the resources he chooses. You can click here to access the iPlan. Some of the things we want to emphasize about spiritual formation are:
Spiritual Formation: following Jesus means becoming like Jesus.
It's clear from scripture that becoming like Jesus is a process. (Eph. 4:13, 1 Timothy 4:15-16, Phil 1:6). It does not happen overnight. This process is what we mean when we say "spiritual formation." As the scripture on the front cover shows, becoming spiritually formed, or becoming like Jesus, is not an optional activity for believers.
God's Goal:
The Holy Spirit works inside of us to make us a "new creation in Christ" (II Corinthians 5:17) This transformation takes place in all areas of our life. God's goal is that our attitudes and behaviors become like Jesus' attitudes and behaviors.
Our Part:
The New Testament also makes it clear that we actively participate in this process of spiritual formation. We invite God's work in our life and we respond where He is working in us.
The iPlan:
The iPlan helps us focus on the behaviors and attitudes of Jesus as we reflect on our own lives. Based on our reflection, we choose 2-3 areas for intentional growth plans. We share these plans with others in our community. Together we strive to cooperate with God's work in our hearts to become like Jesus. You can access our iPlan here.
