Weekly Update Jan 26, 2017

Weekly Information 1/26/17

Prayer Focus
Let's lift up our leaders in prayer, specifically Pastor Nathan and our church board. Give thanks for David Baldrige, Nathan Clair, Gary Court, Cathy Galura, Michael Hoffman, Carole Metzger, Dale Patterson, Sara Samuel, and Carol Springer, asking God to richly bless them as they serve the people of Huron Hills.

Pray for wisdom and understanding:
Ephesians 1: 15–17
For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.

Pray for Spiritual strength and character:
1 Timothy 6:11–12
Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

Board Connection
In preparation for the election and Annual Meeting next month, the ballot and information about each of the candidates is now available at the Info Center. The election consists of voting in new members to the Nominating Committee, and confirming new Board members and the Treasurer. Members, we encourage you to review the slate of candidates so you can pray and discern prior to voting at the upcoming Annual Meeting on February 26. Special thanks to the Nominating Committee for working to put together the slate of candidates!

Reaching Out to Homeless Families
Four times a year HHC serves as the host congregation at Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) at Alpha House. The mission of IHN is to provide food, shelter and comprehensive services in a caring atmosphere of dignity and safety for the homeless families of Washtenaw County. The goal is to support the families in securing and maintaining their own home.

You can extend the love of Christ to these families by volunteering to provide supplies, prepare and serve meals, participate in the children’s activity time or stay overnight. Our next host week is Monday, January 30—Friday, February 3. Join hands with others at HHC to serve those in need. Look for the sign up board in the foyer of HHC or contact Margaret Gaugler for more information at mjgaugler@gmail.com. Additional information about IHN can be found at www.alphahouse-ihn.org.

All Church Prayer Gathering! (February 16, 6–7pm)
Last year was filled with fruitful ministry, and we want the Spirit of God to move and work even more. At this time of guided prayer, we'll gather to pray for more conversions, decisions for renewal, life change here, and around the globe. Let's pray for new staffing needs, our missionaries, and for new opportunities to reach people who are far from God. Let's pray for our neighbors, friends and co-workers who need Jesus!

Annual Meeting & Chili Lunch (February 26, 12–2:30pm)
Save the date! Our annual meeting returns! Join us for a Chili Luncheon in Fellowship Hall and then we'll gather in the Sanctuary to elect new officers, reflect on the 2016 ministry year, hear updates from ministry areas, pray together, and look forward to the 2017 and beyond. Childcare provided!

Sincerely, The Gary & Myra Court Family

From the Board Chair
The message of the gospel is one of unbridled love that leads to repentance, forgiveness and new life. As we enter 2017, the Board’s vision for Huron Hills is a place where we seek to be Christ-centered, Conversion-oriented, Bible-centered, Action-oriented. We want to be a community of believers who are eager to share life with one another. One of the ways in which we live out our calling is in home groups. Someone said that home groups “aren’t just one more thing to do” but home groups are the thing to do! Groups are doing life together. In times of struggle, I have found my group is the place where I experience support and encouragement. I can count on them. If you are not in a group, I urge you to join one and experience life in Christ with others. Check out how to join a group at the group life table or email grouplife@huronhills.org.

Opportunities to Help Refugees
The link http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090e48aea92ba0fe3-inkind48 will take you to a site which lists the latest practical/tangible needs for refugees in our area. Currently there are needs for laptop computers; children's sleeping bags and electric blankets. If you are able to provide item(s), just enter your information into the web site, and you will be contacted for arrangements to be made for pick-up.

Washtenaw Refugee Welcome is asking partner congregations to help generate a list of employers in Washtenaw county who are willing to consider hiring refugees. "The refugees we are trying to help all speak English, have professional experience, are computer literate—some are highly skilled, all have at least some college education (including one MBA), and are willing and eager to work. Transportation is the greatest obstacle. Full- and part-time positions are welcome."

If you know any potential employers to add to the list, please send an email to Cathy Galura cgalura@umich.edu.

Consider working with Samaritas to foster unaccompanied refugee minors—most are 16–17 years old and come from Africa, Central America and the Middle East. Mentor and tutors are also needed for young adults.

Intro & info meeting Saturday, January 28, 10am–1pm at Zion Lutheran. Click here to enroll: http://www.washtenawrefugeewelcome.org/traaining/
