We Have a Youth Pastor!

Dear Huron Hills Church Family,

It's with great joy that I can inform you
of the appointment of
Jeremy Stringer to the position of HH Youth Minister!

Thank you for your prayers and support
as we've walked through this process!

This is an answer to many prayers, and I am filled with deep gratitude for the Holy Spirit's work in us through this search process. It's fitting that we celebrate the creative and renewing work of the Spirit on this Pentecost Sunday as we welcome Jeremy to serve among us.

Jeremy will be supported by an amazing community of ministry leaders and parents. And I can't wait for more of you to meet him and see his heart for students, his new church family, and the Jesus we all love and seek to follow.

Here's what's next:
Jeremy will officially start at the top of August. He has commitments to wrap up in June and July. He will be looking for housing and connecting with leaders and students throughout these coming weeks in preparation for his official start.

As part of our Fall Launch, we will further celebrate this appointment and introduce Jeremy to the wider HHC family in our Sunday worship gathering on September 9.

___________________________

In the meantime, please continue to connect and communicate with our current HH Youth volunteer leaders if you have any questions about summer events and programming.

Again, thank you for your prayers, patience, and unity as we've waited for the Lord to fill this critical ministry role!

Joyfully,

Pastor Nathan

Youth Position Search Update

a note from Pastor Nathan.jpg

Dear Huron Hills,

After reviewing multiple candidates with interviews and other on-site visits, we'll be hosting a new candidate this week (May 15-20) for the open HH Youth position.

His name is Jeremy Stringer. He has worked in a variety of youth ministry environments, has his Masters of Social Work (Clinical), and is currently pursuing an M.A. in Christian Formation at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary.

Please pray for the success of this visit:
Pray that the Spirit would give us clarity about a possible future with Jeremy on our staff team, that all involved would listen well, seek unity, and that God's will be done.

Also, pray for strength as every day of this week will be quite full for Jeremy. He'll be teaching mid-high youth group on Wednesday, and spending a lot of time with lots of different Huron Hills people every day.

Here's some other background on Jeremy's candidacy:
After initial interviews with me, the Advisory Search Team members have interviewed Jeremy as well.
We have already seen Jeremy teach in our Sunday morning/evening youth venues. He's a capable teacher who cares deeply about connecting students with Jesus for a lifetime. He also connected with and served alongside our youth and youth leaders at that prior visit.

Here's some information on our hiring process:
With respect to all staff appointments (except for hiring a Lead Pastor), we follow the processes outlined in our by-laws. By-laws Article 3, Sec. H states:

H. Other Pastors and Church Staff:
Other Pastors and paid Church personnel shall be appointed by the Lead Pastor subject to Church Board approval.

Recognizing the sensitivity and importance of the youth ministry role, I requested that the board create an advisory search team to help further vet candidates that met my initial expectations in conversations around experience, HH culture fit, and theological alignment.

The advisory search team consists of myself, Michael Hoffman (Church Board Chair), Cathy Galura (Church Board Rep.), Marcy Hires (parent), Chris Cristian (parent), Kurtis Rosen (youth ministry volunteer leader), and Brian Samuel (youth ministry volunteer leader). For a time Anna Mason (student-graduated in spring 2017) also served until leaving for college. Their work, input, insights and wisdom have been critical to this process. If you see them, thank them!

Here's some facts about this candidate week (May 15-20):
Jeremy will be spending time with board members, staff, parents, volunteer youth leaders, students and other members in a variety of settings (ex. dinners, interviews, "one on one", etc.). It's our hope to connect with him with the people who this ministry effects the most.

This week is the "final stretch" on discerning Jeremy's candidacy with us.
If the Spirit so leads, and my fellow board members approve, it's my hope that I can invite him to join our staff team.

If you have any further questions about the search, this visit, or our candidate week activities, please do not hesitate to reach out to me, or any other member of the Advisory Search Team that you may already know.

One last word:

Never forget...

Huron Hills belongs to Jesus.
He is the one who leads and guides us.
We trust in him, his timing, and rest in the power of the Spirit.

I believe The Father, Son and Spirit are moving and working at Huron Hills.

I can't wait to see what they do next!

Pastor Nathan

Go to the Info Center to pick up an information packet with the text of the proposed change, along with FAQs. The information was also attached to Pastor Nathan's email this week.

Reaching Out to Homeless Families
Four times a year HHC serves as the host congregation at Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) at Alpha House.  The mission of IHN is to provide food, shelter and comprehensive services in a caring atmosphere of dignity and safety for the homeless families of Washtenaw County. The goal is to support the families in securing and maintaining their own home. Last year HHC volunteers, along with volunteers from other congregations, helped to shelter, feed and support 52 families at Alpha House.
You can be a neighbor to these families and extend the love of Christ by volunteering to provide supplies, prepare and serve meals, participate in the children’s activity time or stay overnight. Our next host week is Monday, January 29–Friday, February 2. Join hands with others at HHC to serve those in need. Look for the sign up board in the foyer of HHC or contact Margaret Gaugler for more information at mjgaugler@gmail.com.  More info can be found at www.alphahouse-ihn.org.

In this season of expectation and hope may we prepare our hearts to welcome and worship Christ Jesus Messiah into the bustle of our lives and the hard to find moments of solitude.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Welcome to Alpha! Join us for Week 3!
A 6-week, dinner-included, Wednesday night series at 6:00pm. This will give you a taste of the world-renowned Alpha course. Wherever you're at in your spiritual life, it is a great series to experience.

Exploring? Alpha will help you think deeply about questions you may have.
Newer Christian?  Alpha will help solidify you in your faith as you go deeper.
Long-time Christian?
Alpha will help you engage with your faith well as you also think about how to engage with those far from God, potentially even using Alpha in the future yourself.

Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. It helps us think about how to thoughtfully engage together. Alpha is all around the globe, and everyone is welcome.

Welcome to Alpha at Huron Hills Church
Wednesdays at 6pm w/Dinner through December 13
(skipping Thanksgiving week).
Room 216A/B

*Sign up in the Lobby or via your HHC E-mails*
We hope you can join us!
