Prayer Focus and Prayer Event August 30
Let’s gather as one and pray for our fall kick off! As the ministry season launches we need to ask for the guidance and power of the Spirit! We will meet on Wednesday, August 30 at the Lodge from 7–8pm. Please direct questions to Myra Court (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Katie Glupker (email@example.com).
Worship, Learn, Connect Together in August!
The Church is the unique creation of the Holy Spirit!
We have a deep sense that creating intentional spaces for all us to be together and to cultivate genuine openness to the Spirit is critical for the vision and mission of Huron Hills Church. It’s a basic feature of what church life ought to be--a community that is unified, open, responsive, and longing for the presence of The Spirit who is God.
We have to move beyond good intentions and do the work of gathering together and seeking God together. So here are three ways in August we can do that together and get ready for this next season of ministry together.
1. Worshipping As One (Gathering)
Make our 11am worship time a priority. Let’s gather in one place with a renewed sense of openness and attentiveness to the Spirit. With a readiness to engage, to sing, to pray, to listen well, to lead each other in worship, to bless God’s heart.
2. Learning as One (Listening)
We will start a 3 week series on the Holy Spirit starting August 13.
We'll explore 3 questions:
Who is the Holy Spirit?
What does the Holy Spirit do?
How can I be filled with the Holy Spirit?
This will set the stage for our fall series on Neighbors and how to live our mission out where we live and work by the power of that Spirit.
3. Becoming as One (Connecting)
9:30AM: August 13, 20, 27 we will create a space for all ages fellowship, learning, and simple prayer to cultivate deeper connections with each other, and to build new relationships. Instead of 2 identical worship services in August, we’ll be creating a fun, interactive all ages space for people to gather as one and seek the Spirit at 9:30am. PreK and Nursery program will still be offered at 9:30am.
From the Board Chair
The church has been engaged in seeking two staff members for HHC. As announced, the Church Board is pleased to welcome Kurt Heinold as the full time Community Life Director at HHC (initially posted as an associate pastor position). Throughout the month of July, Kurt will be in the Welcome Center after each service so you can meet and talk with him. In addition, Advisory Search Team members (David Baldrige, Gary Court, Julie Esch, Melodie Marske, Eric Svaan,) and Board members will be available in the Welcome Center and lobby for discussion.
Please continue to pray for our open Youth Pastor position. We initially thought that the Youth Pastor opening would be much quicker to fill. Unfortunately, it is taking much longer than anticipated. We share the sense of urgency that the volunteer youth leadership team, parents and youth have expressed about filling this important vacancy. The members of the Youth Pastor Advisory Search Team are: Chris Cristian, Cathy Galura, Marcy Hires, Michael Hoffman, and Kurtis Rosen. If you have suggestions for possible candidates, please contact any of the team members or Nathan.
New ministry opportunity!
You are invited to a Prayer and Planning meeting for all who want to help international students and scholars at Huron Hills draw closer to God. Come to room 216A on Tuesday night, August 22 at 7:30pm. We will pray and brainstorm new ways Huron Hills can assist internationals in knowing Christ and making Him known. Contact Yuanyuan with questions (firstname.lastname@example.org or (734) 678-4821).
Divorce Recovery Workshop
This fall will mark the 33rd year that Divorce Recovery Workshop has been offered here at Huron Hills, and over the years hundreds of lives have been touched through this wonderful ministry. The workshop will meet on Thursday nights September 21–November 9, 7–9:30pm. Once again our presenter will be Eddie Dunn, who speaks with warmth and compassion, encouraging the participants to grow and experience healing in many areas of their lives. The presentations are from a Christian perspective, and are based on sound psychological principles dealing with grief/loss, recovery, and the process of healing. Please consider whether you or someone you know might be helped by this life-changing workshop. Contact Marilyn Johnston at email@example.com, or call the church at (734) 769-6299 if you have questions or would like to pre-register. The registration fee is $40. Scholarships available.
HHMoms is an intergenerational group of moms looking for depth of relationship with each other and Christ! We’ll be kicking off our second year on Friday mornings here at Huron Hills, beginning September 8, from 9:30–11:15am in Room 216B. We spend time drinking coffee, eating delicious treats, delving deep into the Word together, and developing intentional friendships. Free childcare is provided, all ages and stages of moms are welcome to join! Please sign up at huronhills.org or on the sign up sheets at the welcome area. If you have any questions, please contact Steph Ebright at firstname.lastname@example.org and/or join our Facebook group, HHMoms.

Bridges Sunday Class—11:00am, Room 217
We gear the class toward international students but anyone is welcome. We are studying The Gospel of Mark. Teachers are Ryan Nelson, Rich Steiner and Peter Talbot.
A Big Thank You and Welcome!
HHKids has been so blessed by Steph Ebright, once again, stepping in as interim Coordinator overseeing nursery and preschool this summer. Her energy, dedication and know-how have been invaluable. Please be sure to say thank you when you see her (and keep a look out for a meal train when that baby girl arrives!). And we joyfully welcome Kristen Hamilton to our staff. Kristen comes with a background in children's literature and drama. She also is a paraprofessional at Ypsilanti District Library overseeing story times and events for youth. We are so excited to have her join our team (her husband Matt is our HHKids Worship Coordinator).
HHKids Volunteer Needs
Now that we will have two offerings in August, we are in need of helpers for both services in preschool/nursery, and primarily at the 11:00 for elementary. Take that step and reach out to Bianca@huronhills.org right now! You'll be blessed as a result!
The theme for the summer is Gadgets and Gizmos- we are uniquely wired and wonderfully made. This month, we take a closer look at the idea of uniqueness—discovering who God made you to be so you can make a difference. Our Memory Verse for July is Ephesians 2:10: We are God’s creation. He created us to belong to Christ Jesus. Now we can do good works. Long ago God prepared these works for us to do. (NIrV)
The theme for June and July is "Kids Rock" and the children will be hearing stories of kids in the bible (Jesus at the temple, Samuel, and David). The bottom line is "I can do what God wants me to do", and the verse is “God made us to do good works.” Ephesians 2:10, NCV.
Be sure to check out our renovation plans in the lobby and lower level. Thanks for your flexibility this summer as we begin renewing the space for our families!

College Ministry Update
With the new school year, we are seeking to deepen connections between college and graduate school students at Huron Hills and our larger church family. Please consider helping us out with two exciting initiatives we are launching this fall:
- Adopt-a-Student: Volunteer to make your home a home-away-from-home for a college student (or group of students). Meals, laundry, coffee, conversation: your can give our college students and graduate students a chance to see what life can look like after school, and understand better how to maintain a strong connection with God and His people.
- ULunch Service: We will be hosting one extra lunch in the first month of school, and we are asking for small groups to volunteer their service in preparing and serving food on September 24 and October 8.
For more information, or to join in in the fun and service, please contact: Nate Veldhoff (email@example.com)
